4 Signs Your Home’s Ductwork Needs Cleaning
Spring and summer in Tallahassee, Florida, are hot and humid. If your HVAC ductwork is dirty, your home won’t feel like a cool and comfortable oasis. Look out for these four signs that your home’s ductwork needs cleaning:
Filter Hasn’t Been Changed This Spring
Your air filters are responsible for trapping debris, dust, pet dander, pollen and other airborne contaminants. Check your manufacturer’s instructions regarding the frequency of changing the air filter. In most cases, you should change your air filter every 30 to 90 days.
Visible Dust on the Vent Covers
Do you clean and dust your home regularly? If you see a buildup of dust on your registers and vent covers, it’s probably time for a ductwork cleaning. For further prevention of dust buildup, ask your service technician about a better quality air filter. You could also invest in an air purifier that works with your HVAC system to catch airborne particles before they enter your ductwork. As a result, you’ll improve indoor air quality.
Inconsistent Airflow in Different Rooms
Have you noticed that one or more rooms don’t receive the same airflow as your other rooms? Your ductwork is probably dirty. Clean and fully opened vents should deliver the same quality of airflow in each room. If they don’t, you might need to schedule a ductwork cleaning.
There Are Noises in Your Ductwork
After living with your HVAC system for a time, you’ll become familiar with the noises it makes. If your ductwork starts to make unfamiliar noises, it could be a sign that they’re blocked or have an accumulation of debris and dust. Your ducts might also be harboring pests.
